Marking its 30th anniversary, SAPO fused its legacy apps into a sleek, mobile-first powerhouse, designed and engineered by Bliss for iOS and Android. Powered by generative AI and machine learning, it delivers hyper-personalized news, daily briefs, audio streams, and live newspaper covers, with seamless integration for CarPlay and Android Auto, providing a consistent, on-the-go experience.

Goal

The project set out to reimagine SAPO for the mobile age, offering a deeply personal, AI-driven news experience. Intelligent algorithms tailor content to each user’s preferences, striking the perfect balance between automation and control. At the same time, the app needed to extend SAPO’s reach to new contexts, such as the in-car experience, offering drivers concise, relevant, and safe access to information. Aligned with SAPO’s new identity, “SAPO – Vê por ti,” the outcome reinforces the brand’s commitment to trust, relevance, and proximity.

Personalization at the center of user experience

SAPO’s vision was to make every news experience personal. Bliss and WYnova collaborated to integrate AI algorithms that adapt content feeds based on user interests, interactions, and preferences. The app provides text and audio summaries of the day’s most relevant news, enabling users to explore editorial selections, opinion pieces, and curated playlists that update dynamically throughout the day. Text-to-speech functionality gives users full control over how they consume content. Each interaction is designed to feel purposeful, reflecting SAPO’s commitment to credible, relevant, and timely information.

News on the Move

Embracing mobility as part of everyday life, SAPO extended its platform into the car through CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Bliss designed this interface to be distraction-free, audio-first, and synchronized with the mobile app, allowing drivers to consume summaries, follow curated highlights, and access saved content safely while commuting. The challenge was to maintain simplicity and usability while meeting strict in-car design requirements. The result is a first-of-its-kind experience in Portugal, bringing SAPO’s trusted content to users wherever they go.

AI at the service of users

AI was a core integration as part of SAPO’s experience. In close collaboration with WYnova, generative AI and machine learning technologies were embedded at the heart of the platform, enabling real-time text and audio summaries from verified news and tailoring recommendations and notifications to each user’s habits. WYnova’s contribution was key to developing the personalization and dynamic summarization models that make each interaction feel adaptive and relevant, combining intelligent automation with human editorial oversight. The result is a user-centric platform that keeps trusted news timely, and effortlessly engaging.
