MB WAY UP!
MB WAY goes all the way UP!
MB WAY is a mobile ATM that allows users to pay in stores and online, send and receive money, and manage virtual cards and expenses.
Within MB WAY, a rewards area allows users to benefit from MB WAY partnerships and earn prizes by scratching vouchers. MB WAY challenged Bliss to renew this area’s name, visuals, and features to leverage it and encourage more users to opt in.
Goal
MB WAY’s goal was to revamp the rewards area with new visuals to enhance user engagement in the member-get-transaction and member-get-member aspects of the application. MB WAY also wanted new features to create more engagement and gamification opportunities.
The design process
We started with a kick-off meeting to align the project’s main goals, expectations, and risks with all stakeholders. In the tactical phase, we delivered a UI concept for the new CHALLENGE and conducted research and a collaborative workshop to revamp the name for this area. And CHALLENGE became MB WAY UP!
In the operational phase, we had a deeper understanding and definition of the system structure, flows, tasks, and users. We conducted user tests and delivered screens and flows.
Refining the product’s emotional layer
Different tools and methodologies were critical to guarantee design quality. We conducted a workshop with stakeholders to define the design direction, an audit of the app to understand its features and pain points, and benchmarking to identify best practices to improve user engagement.
We worked collaboratively to enhance the user’s overall experience, using different design areas, like illustration, iconography, motion, and UX Writing. This enabled us to refine the product’s emotional layer, creating positive surprises throughout the journey and a feeling of anticipation while the user scratches and waits for the result.
Improving the app’s mechanics
MB WAY challenged us to improve the app’s mechanics and increase user engagement. We researched market best practices to design and organize the app’s information. There are 4 main areas: “Raspa e Ganha”, “Cashback e desafios”, “Direct discounts”, and “Giveaways”. We re-designed and simplified all these areas, explaining how it works.
“Raspa e ganha” is the app’s game, in which users can scratch vouchers to win specific prizes. Users must be the first to finish scratching the voucher at each minute to win the award. We improved the vouchers area and added a timer, a showcase of the prizes users can win each minute, and a more straightforward explanation of the game’s mechanics.
Creating loyalty area
MB WAY asked us to add a loyalty card area to the app. Here, users can add loyalty cards from MB WAY partners to their “wallet”. Users can then quickly access them while paying with MB WAY.
To design this new area, we benchmarked apps with loyalty cards, defined the user flow, designed low and high-fidelity screens, and tested them with real users.
Friends, codes and prizes
MB WAY UP! is all about winning prizes. Prizes can be physical or monetary. The monetary prizes are added to the “Saldo”. On the “Saldo” page, users can see the currently available balance, the total amount ever earned, and check their last won prizes. To transfer money from their MB WAY “Saldo” to their bank account, users can make a “resgate” request.
On “O meu WAY UP!” users can add promotional codes, check the prizes earned so far, and keep a record of all activities made in the app, such as vouchers received, used, or expired, the cashback earned, and the status of a “restate” request. Each user also has a code that they can share with friends to win even more vouchers and special prizes.
Handoff to development
We did a handoff bundle with the final and approved screens, including annotations, behavioral notes, motion links, and connectors to represent the interaction between screens. We also delivered a UI kit with all the components and foundations defined.
To ensure effective collaboration between design and engineering, we held two status meetings and a final presentation. This allowed us to identify significant challenges and technical requirements early.
