Via Verde is a mobility solutions provider in Portugal, delivering digital services through its web and mobile platforms. With the European Accessibility Act deadline approaching (June 28), the company asked us to conduct a comprehensive accessibility audit to ensure that its iOS and Android apps, along with its websites for individuals and businesses, complied with the accessibility standards.

Goal

The main goal of the project was to identify accessibility issues within Via Verde’s digital platforms and provide clear, actionable technical recommendations for fixing these problems, making sure that the platforms comply with WCAG 2.2 (Level AA).

Tools

A complete route inspection

For about two months, we conducted an in-depth audit across Via Verde’s digital system. This included 1,560 unique web pages and 7,362 key screens across the iOS and Android apps. The audit systematically analyzed critical user journeys and UI components, mapping accessibility gaps that could compromise the experience of users with disabilities.

Test-driving the journey

The audit combined manual and automated testing to ensure maximum coverage. Tools such as Browserstack and Silktide Accessibility Checker helped identify recurring issues, while real-world testing with keyboard navigation and screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack) validated operability and perception. Every issue was tagged by severity and mapped against WCAG 2.2 success criteria.

Roadblocks detected

The audit found 255 accessibility issues. The most common gaps were related to desktop interaction errors and insufficient color contrast on Android. Although no fixes were implemented during this phase, the comprehensive report provided a strategic foundation, guiding Via Verde’s teams toward remediation and supporting their long-term accessibility efforts.

Staying in the right lane

The QA audit team, project management, and the accessibility lead worked closely to make sure the project was completed on time and within budget. We held regular functional meetings and monitored progress weekly using a Kanban methodology. This approach helped mitigate potential risks such as scope changes and exceeding the contracted hours.

A positive outcome for future journeys

The audit had a positive impact. By mapping critical gaps and delivering clear recommendations, we enabled Via Verde’s teams to incorporate accessibility practices into their ongoing work. In addition to meeting European legal requirements, this project reinforced Via Verde’s commitment to creating inclusive digital experiences that everyone can access and enjoy.
